Jaymie Dearing Named Student Alumni Ambassador at EKU

2013 Jan 3

Jaymie Dearing of Richmond has been selected as a Student Alumni Ambassador at Eastern Kentucky University.

Dearing is majoring in Anthropology at EKU.

Members of Eastern's SAA chapter, whose main objective is service to the University, often serve as hosts at various campus and alumni events. Ambassadors lead tours of campus and often meet with prospective students on campus and at recruitment events throughout Kentucky and beyond, and are involved with numerous other service and philanthropic events.

In 2007, the EKU SAA chapter was named the best organization in the nation by the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education Affiliated Student Advancement Programs (CASE ASAP) and the group received top CASE ASAP regional honors several times.

"The EKU Student Alumni Ambassadors are highly motivated students who represent a cross-section of our campus population," said adviser Jey Marks, who was 2011 National Student Alumni Ambassador Adviser of the Year. "They have a passion for service and give of themselves freely. I truly believe they embody some of the best that EKU has to offer."

In addition to their strong commitment to academics and to the organization, SAA members are typically involved in many other areas of the University. Eighteen percent are enrolled in the Honors Program, 9 percent are active in Greek life, 42 percent participate in a religious organization, 33 percent are in an academic-related organization, 18 percent are involved with service organizations, and 62 percent play intramural sports. Seventy-three percent are attending EKU on a scholarship.
